Surf Towns Network Project
Get to Know Us
The Surf Towns Network is a collaborative working tool that brings together municipalities across Spain with a shared goal: to operate as a single, unique and authentic destination, and to promote a kind of surf tourism that contributes positively by leveraging the rich cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage of the territory.
The Network is made up of the Association of Municipalities of the Ferrol Region (Galicia) and the municipalities of Carballo (Galicia), Castrillón (Asturias), Ribamontán al Mar (Cantabria) and Getxo (Basque Country).
This initiative is part of the Experiencias Turismo España programme, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU.

Mission of the Surf Towns Network Project
The mission of the Surf Towns Network is to facilitate sustainable and responsible surf tourism management, focusing on the preservation of the natural and cultural environment of the participating towns. The project aims to offer enriching experiences for visitors while protecting and respecting the unique identity of each community.
Vision of the Surf Towns Network Project
The vision is to make the Surf Towns Network an international benchmark for sustainable tourism management. The network aims to harmoniously integrate surfing with environmental conservation and the socioeconomic development of local communities, inspiring other coastal regions to adopt similar approaches to responsible tourism.
Values of the Surf Towns Network Project
The project is founded on values of sustainability, cultural respect, collaboration, authenticity, and innovation. It is committed to promoting tourism practices that minimize environmental impact and respect local cultural diversity, fostering cooperation among all stakeholders to preserve the authenticity of experiences and promote sustainable tourism development through continuous innovation.
Sustainable Tourism and Environmental Protection
The Surf Towns Network creates sustainable tourism products that help reduce the seasonality of tourism, including activities related to surfing, cultural heritage, family leisure, and gastronomy. Economically, it supports surf schools, surf camps, surf shops, board manufacturers, equipment suppliers, accommodations, restaurants, and sports event organizers. It is estimated that around 120 surf-related businesses will directly benefit. Environmentally, the network protects the waves and the coast by regulating their use and preserving the natural environment, and it considers the potential expansion of partners based on the success of this first phase.
