The Surf Stars Walk of Somo is a tribute to those who, through their dedication, initiative, and sporting achievements, have helped develop surfing as a sport, culture, and set of values — making it an important part of the town’s identity.
It is located on the seafront promenade of Somo Beach, next to the Surf Center and skatepark. It was inaugurated in 2017 with the first star in honor of professional surfer Pablo Gutiérrez, former European surfing champion. Later stars were added in tribute to Laura Revuelta, the first recognized female surfer in Spain; to the pioneers of surfing who introduced and developed the sport at various levels; and to Aritz Aranburu, the first Spanish surfer to reach the world elite and qualify for the WSL Championship Tour, reserved for the planet’s top 34 surfers.
