Somo Beach is the cradle of surfing in Cantabria; probably one of the most recognized beaches in the region. It’s a sandy beach about 2,000 meters long, stretching from El Puntal to its neighboring Loredo Beach. Its wide range of resources, infrastructure, and impact—thanks to the many surf schools—make it a highly frequented beach. However, its large size allows visitors to enjoy it comfortably. It features a seaside promenade, ideal for walking and enjoying the surrounding biodiversity. Together with El Puntal and Loredo Beach, it forms the longest sandy stretch on the Cantabrian coast, nearly 8 km in total.
In the area known as Las Quebrantas (closest to El Puntal), surfing takes place all year round, with competitions thanks to its strong waves.
