With nearly one kilometer of fine sand, Ereaga is the municipality’s main beach—urban, lively, and very well connected and equipped. It’s perfect not only for sunbathing and swimming, but also for various activities like surfing, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, and major beach football tournaments. Most of all, it’s a favorite spot for bodyboarding.
The beach features several surf breaks for both shortboard and longboard enthusiasts, with waves suitable for all levels: ideal for beginners in summer and only suitable for experienced surfers in autumn and winter. From the various viewpoints overlooking Ereaga, you can spot nearly a dozen different waves. Among them stands out Punta Galea, in the Santa María (Andra Mari) district, famous for hosting the big wave world championship. Also noteworthy are the Jeffreys waves in the Old Port area, a paradise for longboarders from across Bilbao’s Right Bank.
Ereaga Beach is located between the Old Port of Algorta and the Arriluce breakwater. With Mount Serantes and Portugalete in the background and surrounded by elegant mansions and historic villas, it also hosts summer concerts. Among its services: showers, drinking fountains, bike parking, picnic areas, restaurants and hotels, lifeguards, beach supervisors, and accessible parking for people with disabilities. Fishing is allowed. You’ll also find volleyball courts, a beach bar, rental services for paddles, boards, boogie boards or jet skis, children’s play areas, and a summer library.
